Matusz, Birds Blown Away

The O's were swept by Toronto for the third time this season after the visiting Blue Jays crushed them 10-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Orioles went ahead 1-0 in the first inning before Toronto stormed back with ten unanswered runs. O's starter Brian Matusz lasted just 1 2/3 innings and was charged with six runs off five hits, two walks and a hit batter. It was Matusz's shortest outing of his young career; his tenth loss of the season now ties him with fellow starter Jeremy Guthrie (3-10) for the most losses in the A.L.

What a season this has been...the Birds probably won't have a starter with 20 wins, but there's a chance the team could have three 20-game losers (Kevin Millwood (2-8) should return from the DL this week)!

Once again, the offense managed some hits (12 compared to Toronto's 15) but were unable to produce any runs...the Birds stranded 11 men on base and went just 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Unbelievable.

On the plus-side, Nick Markakis slapped two doubles and now leads the Majors with 31.

The Orioles take on the Tampa Bay Rays for a three-game set beginning Monday night...Chris Tillman is slated to take the mound for the Birds.
