Guthrie Shuts Down Tigers

The O's won again on Saturday night, taking down the Tigers 5-3 at Comerica Park.

Jeremy Guthrie cruised through seven innings, holding Detroit scoreless on five hits and a walk while fanning four. Matt Albers came on to start the eighth with the Birds up 4-0, and allowed three runs on four hits to put the Tigers within striking distance, but Koji Uehara pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts to seal the Birds' second straight win over the Tigers.

The O's banged-out 16 hits but were held off the board until a four-run sixth...Adam Jones and Felix Pie led-off the inning with back-to-back doubles, and Cesar Izturis connected for a two-run triple. Every starter had at least one hit except for Ty Wigginton (who picked up an RBI with a sac fly in the sixth).

The Birds are now guaranteed a winning series against Detroit, and have put together another winning road trip. The O's send Chris Tillman to the mound on Sunday afternoon...
